Clergy Quadrant Meetings Begin
Clergy Monday Morning Quadrant meetings will start back up in September. This month’s book for discussion is Journey in the Wildnerness: New life for Mainline Churches by Gil Rendle.
All meetings are at 10:00 a.m. Please plan to attend one meeting per month at any location.
September 6 – Wiley College Julius S. Scott Chapel Conference Room, Marshall Texas. (This meeting on Tuesday because of Labor Day Weekend.)
September 12 – Greggton UMC, Longview, Tx
September 19 – First UMC, Pittsburg, Tx. (we will leave for “The Gathering 2011″ at Lakeview immediately following)
September 26 – Hardy Memorial UMC, Texarkana, Tx
A tarining session with Lonna Nunn and Anna M. Rhode on Charge Conference Reports will be held at each clergy quadrant meeting in September at 11:00 a.m. We encourage you to attend these trainings, and to invite you local church secretary, treasurers, committee members, etc…

Texarkana Quadrant ACTS Group Offers Stewardship Workshop

Leader: The Rev. Melvin Amerson of the Texas Methodist Foundation in Austin, Texas. Rev. Amerson is the author of several books on generosity, served on the Boards of Ordained ministry, Wesley Foundation, Evangelism and chaired the Extravagant Generosity Ministry of the Texas Annual Conference.
Rev. Emerson will speak on “Developing a Culture of Generosity” and “Celebrating the Offering”. Though yearly stewardship campaigns are effective, he speaks towards establishing a daily/weekly life of personal giving for your church congregations. He conducts a fun and interesting workshop; pastors and laity will greatly benefit. Make plans to attend this great opportunity. He will also be available for personal consultations after the workshop (call A. Rohde in Longview).
Monday Morning Quadrant Meeting Changes
Monday Morning Quadrant Meetings are cancelled on March 15 for Spring Break and April 5 for Easter Holiday.
However everyone is invited to hear Rev. Pat Day of Shreveport First UMC speaking about “How to Be Like Jesus” for the Mt. Pleasant 2010 Lenten series Monday March 15@ noon, Tennison.
Monday Quadrant Meeting Held as Usual
The Monday Morning Quadrant Meeting at Hardy Memorial will be held as usual for the Texarkana area on Monday Jan 25. Pastors have the choice of attending either the Quadrant meeting or the workshop at Gladewater with Dr. Jerry DeSobe.

Dealing with Difficult Parishoners Workshop
Dr. Jerry DeSobe will be at Gladewater First UMC to present a workshop on “Dealing with Difficult Parishioners” on Monday, January 25. The time will be 10:00 am till 2 pm with a lunch. This is a free workshop with a donation accepted for lunch. This is usually the regular meeting of the Texarkana Quadrant Meeting at Hardy Memorial UMC. however, if there is more interest in meeting with Jerry DeSobe than in a regular quadrant meeting we will cancel the quadrant meeting. Those in the Texarkana Quadrant, please let the district office know of your desire. Thank you
Training Event in Pittsburg

Mt. Pleasant Quadrant is Looking For Leaders
The Mt. Pleasant quadrant will host leadership training on Jan 10 from 2:30-4:30 at First UMC – Pittsburg. We are hoping to have workshops for the following: lay leaders, lay leadership development, sprc, trustees, missions, finance, evangelism, christian education, children’s ministry, youth ministry, adult ministry, communications, and worship. Bill Taylor will be our speaker, and will lead the sprc workshop. And we will have copies of the UM guidelines to pass out to all the committee members present.
But here’s where I need your help:
We are trying to find the best leaders in these various committees from our district to lead the workshops. If you know someone who is doing a great job in one of these areas (or who has done a great job recently) and who could lead and inspire others, and direct one of these workshops, could you please give me names and contact info asap? What is A.C.T.S.?
The North District has been divided into four geographic quadrants; Texarkana , Marshall , Mt. Pleasant & Longview . Each of the churches in these quadrants will meet together on a quarterly basis and will form an ACTS (Area Churches Together in Service) Group. The pastor, lay leader and other lay persons from each local church should plan to attend each meeting. Each quadrant has a clergy and lay person who will co-chair the group. Their role will be to plan and facilitate each meeting and each will also serve as a member of the District Leadership Team. One thing I want to emphasize is that each of these groups will be different. They will be what you want and need them to be. Your participation and your voice are important!
