The DNA in every cell contains the essential information that defines who we are. Vital churches, like healthy bodies, have healthy DNA in every member of the body. Unity on the core values, bedrock beliefs, vision and motivating mission creates a permission-giving spirit and a positive ministry environment. DNA Coaching exists to support your efforts to create this positive DNA – in you, your church and your denomination.

Native American Sunday will be held April 18, 2010
Without help from Native American Ministries Sunday, Ray deZafra never would have found his way to the Third Sunday Native American Fellowship. For the first time in his life, the Potawatomi Indian feels that he belongs, not just to a tribe, but also to a community of Christians. The offering on this Special Sunday educates Native American seminarians, plants Native American churches and cultivates Native American outreach to seekers like Ray.
Call (888) 346-3862 today to order envelopes and other resources so your congregation can participate in this churchwide offering. They will be sent at no cost to your church! Find more at umcgiving.org/specialsundays.
2010 LENTEN SERIES – MARCH 14-15
Tennison Memorial United Methodist Church
We invite you all to join us for these special opportunities of worship, fellowship and (of course) food during our annual Lenten series. We are thrilled to have Dr. Pat Day as our guest speaker.
Dr. Day has served as senior pastor of First United Methodist Church in Shreveport since 1992. He was instrumental in leading a major turn-around of the 3,800 member congregation. The Sunday worship services are broadcast each week on the NBC affiliate KTAL and on the ABC affiliate KTBS.
Dr. Day earned his B.A. degree from Austin College in 1971, his Master of Theology degree from Southern Methodist University in 1975, and his Doctor of Ministry degree from SMU in 1976.
He is a member of the National Speakers Association and is in constant demand as an inspirational and motivational speaker for churches, schools, colleges, conferences, civic organizations, and community events. He has also written several articles for Net Results magazine for evangelism and church growth, and is the author of the inspirational book “Growing Into Greatness.”
We do hope you will make every effort to attend each service, and to invite others to join us for what promises to be a glorious time of worship, preparing our hearts for the celebration of our Lord’s resurrection at Easter!
A SPECIAL INVITATION FOR PASTORS – On Monday, March 15, at 2PM, Dr. Day will lead a workshop for pastors on Passionate Worship, sharing ideas and resources to help you better plan and prepare for worship.

Group Health Benefits Wellness Rebate
Clergy are eligible for a rebate of the 2010 GHB increase in personal contribution. Once clergy attend a Day of Wellness event, a rebate check for the 10% increase in clergy contribution will be made according to the following formula:
2010 personal contribution amount* –(minus) Minus 2009 personal contribution amount** (Equals) = REBATE***
*The 2010 personal contribution amount will be calculated based on the personal contribution for the month of February 2010 using the clergy’s salary as of February 2010 and multiplying that amount by 12. The last day for setting 2010 compensation is February 28, 2010 for rebate purposes.
**The 2009 personal contribution amount is calculated based on the amount contributed by personal contribution for the month of December, 2009 using the clergy’s salary as of December 2009 and multiplying that amount by 12.
***The rebate amount will be the difference between the annualized 2010 personal contribution amount and the 2009 annualized personal contribution amount.
Clergy attending a Day of Wellness event during 2010 will receive their rebate check on the day they complete the Day of Wellness. Clergy who attended the Day of Wellness prior to 2010 will receive their rebate check in the mail during the month of February.
DeSobe Group
Feb 16
Do you want to spend some time with neat people? Read thought-provoking books that are relevant to ministry and discuss them with other great minds?
Do you like to “get out of town” once a month or so, even for just a couple of hours? Have a chance to eat lunch in places that are not Dairy Queen?
Would you like to do these things with a person of wit, skill and experience working with clergy because he is one himself?
And do you have a pressing need to get started on those continuing education hours for 2010?
Then we have a deal for you!
Dr. Jerry DeSobe, Director of the Krist Samaritan Center in Clear Lake, will be convening a Clergy Study Group on Wednesday, February 24 from 10:00 to 12:00 a.m. at Marvin UMC in Tyler.
The group will meet monthly for conversation and study, at a time to be determined.
This is a group organized specifically by and for the North and Northwest Districts. It can be claimed as continuing education credits.
For more information, or to register, or to express interest even though you can’t make the first session, contact Dr. Jerry DeSobe at one of the following:
