Do you want to spend some time with neat people? Read thought-provoking books that are relevant to ministry and discuss them with other great minds?

Do you like to “get out of town” once a month or so, even for just a couple of hours? Have a chance to eat lunch in places that are not Dairy Queen?

Would you like to do these things with a person of wit, skill and experience working with clergy because he is one himself?

And do you have a pressing need to get started on those continuing education hours for 2010?

Then we have a deal for you!

Dr. Jerry DeSobe, Director of the Krist Samaritan Center in Clear Lake, will be convening a Clergy Study Group on Wednesday, February 24 from 10:00 to 12:00 a.m. at Marvin UMC in Tyler.

The group will meet monthly for conversation and study, at a time to be determined.

This is a group organized specifically by and for the North and Northwest Districts. It can be claimed as continuing education credits.

North District Delegate Meeting

All clergy and laity are welcome to attend the North District Delegate Meeting with Rick Goodrich on April 17, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Daingerfield FUMC. We will learn about annual conference issues and items to be voted on this year.  Daingerfield FUMC is located at 306 Scurry, Daingerfield TX 75638

Monday Quadrant Meeting Held as Usual

The Monday Morning Quadrant Meeting at Hardy Memorial will be held as usual for the Texarkana area on Monday Jan 25. Pastors have the choice of attending either the Quadrant meeting or the workshop at Gladewater with Dr. Jerry DeSobe.

RSVP Needed for District Clergy Retreat Meals Also

We originally posted that you only needed to RSVP with Lonna if you were staying overnight at the retreat. For planning purposes, however, we also need a count for meals. If you will be attending the Clergy District Retreat either overnight or coming for the day please let Lonna know so she can have a correct count for meals as well as overnight accommodations. 903-794-6231

Register for District Clergy Retreat

District Clergy Retreat at Lake View Baptist Retreat Center in Lone Star, Texas.  February 1 at 9 am through February 2 at noon.  Guest Speaker wil be Gil Rendle. There will be  $75 fee for overnighters and a $40 fee for commuters.  Flat rates.  No breakdown for meals or anything else. Maud UMC Hosts Haiti Benefit Lunch

On Sunday, January 31, at Noon, Maud UMC is sponsoring a Beans and Rice Lunch to raise funds to benefit UMCOR’s relief effort in Haiti. The lunch is free with no frills, but we are challenging our church family and community to donate the amount they would spend to “eat out” on Sunday.  If we spend an average of $7-10 per person to eat out, imagine how much we might raise if all UMs were to participate!

Dealing with Difficult Parishoners Workshop

Dr. Jerry DeSobe will be at Gladewater First UMC to present a workshop on “Dealing with Difficult Parishioners” on Monday, January 25.  The time will be 10:00 am till 2 pm with a lunch. This is a free workshop with a donation accepted for lunch. This is usually the regular meeting of the Texarkana Quadrant Meeting at Hardy Memorial UMC. however, if there is more interest in meeting with Jerry DeSobe than in a regular quadrant meeting we will cancel the quadrant meeting.  Those in the Texarkana Quadrant, please let the district office know of your desire. Report Day and Conflict Resolution Seminar

Any one choosing to attend the Conflict Resolution Seminar on Tuesday,  January 12 can present for report day on Wednesday January 13th at Jefferson UMC before 10:30 a.m.  The seminar is being held on January 12 from 10:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. at Marvin UMC, Tyler. (300 W. Erwin St. Tyler, TX 75702) If you are planning on going to the seminar please email Barbara E0ff at beoff@txcumc.org. You may download the brochure here and can pay the $15 fee at the door.
