PAUMCS Conference

In the picture below are Mrs Vonnie Johnson (on left), Admin Asst in the East District Office and Ms Cindy Hassey, Admin Asst in the South District Office.  Vonnie received PAUMCS recertification and Cindy completed her training last summer and was certified this year at the Professional Association of United Methodist Church Secretary/Staff Conference In Phoenix, Arizona April 18-21.  Once again this was an inspirational and life learning event for all.

Thirteen ladies represented Texas at the conference this year. Here are the topics of the workshops presented: Copyright and Licensing Issues, Turning up the Fire in Your Church’s Ministry, Finding Mary in a Martha World, What Would you do if…? This last one was interesting as the speaker presented several scenarios on problems that arise at the church from building issues to pastor staff concerns which we all discussed and several attendees offered helpful and interesting solutions.

If you have every had any questions about music licensing and rights, the following website was given for information on Church Copyright Licensing:  http://www.ccli.com.  Also for religious service exemptions visit http://christiancopyrightsolutions.com/ .  How about questions on the use of the United Methodist Logo visit www.umw.org enter cross and flame in the search box.

Here is a new idea we gathered from one of the many vendors at the conference. A great way to make donations to your local church that is approved by the UMC’s General Council on Finance and Administration. Sign up at www.UMCmarket.org and shop from stores in many different categories. UMC has partnered with hundreds of online stores that are donating a portion of your purchase back to your home church. It is a way of saying “thank you” for referring you as a customer to them.  You will find everything from books, movies, fashion, to sports equipment and food for your pet. Including an online travel agency which gurantees the best price on flights, hotels and care rentals. This is secure online shopping program is an easy way for church members and their friends to support the mission and ministries of their local church.

From one of our morning devotionals:  Found on church signs – “The Holy Spirit isn’t a medium, it’s a large”   “Free Faith Lifts”

Visit www.PAUMCS@org and make plans to join us all next year in Asheville, North  Carolina April 3-6, 2014.

Dear TAC 2013 Delegate,

We are delighted that you will be serving as a delegate to the 2013 Texas Annual Conference and we want to do everything we can to assist you in preparing for this responsibility. May 26th is fast approaching so we want to make you aware of several important upcoming activities.

First of all, next week we will be mailing the Pre-Conference Journal to all lay and clergy delegates.  It will contain all the materials related to our story as an annual conference, orientations to the physical setting of this year’s conference, as well as resolutions and action items that you will be asked to consider. We hope that you will take the time to review these materials in order to make informed decisions.  If your pre-conference journal has not arrived by April 30th, please contact your district office for assistance.  We’ll also post the Pre-Conference Journal on our web site as well as some addendum items which were received after the deadline of publication. You will also receive these addendum items via email.

Second, we look forward to your participation at the district pre-conference meetings.  Attached please find this year’s schedule, which highlights the locations and times for these meetings.  In the event you cannot participate in your specific district, please feel free to attend any of the meetings scheduled.

And last, but certainly not least, our mission project for this Annual Conference will be the collection of gift cards to provide to the homeless and to victims of human trafficking.  We ask that congregations participate by sending each delegate with as many gift cards as possible.  These cards can be from restaurants like McDonald’s or Whataburger, Target or CVS, anywhere that food, toiletries or clothing can be purchased.  It is our prayer that this project will broaden participation in Annual Conference so that all congregations will be a part of our annual connection and service to “the least of these.”

Look for a reminder notice a week prior to your district pre-conference meeting.  Thank you again for the gift of your time and leadership in the Texas Annual Conference.

PAUMCS Annual Conference

PAUMCS Annual Conference is set for April 18-21, 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona. Visit www.paumcs.org for registration information or call Anna M Rohde in the district office in Longview. The Professional Association of United Methodist Church Secretaries Organization is open to all local United Methodist Church Staff. You need not be a member to attend the conference. 2012 Charge Conference Schedule

Each year, each church in the district prepares for an annual conference with their reports on finance, trustee, membership and church committees. The district superintendent conducts these meetings as per the Book of Discipline. This year the district superintendent will meet with the churches in small cluster groups around the district. With 103 churches in the district, this method works best.  I have attached a schedule for our local churches with the dates, times and locations of these meetings.

2012 Charge Conference Schedule

What do you see?

On the front page of this week’s “Cross Connection,” Bishop Janice Riggle Huie’s book WHAT DO YOU SEE? was highlighted. A limited preview edition will be available for $15 during Annual Conference at our Cokesbury book store. They will not be available at registration as previously stated.

Seeking Ride to Annual Conference

Linda LeBlanc, Lay Leader from Wesley McCabe UMC, is seeking a  ride to Annual Conference in Galveston, Texas. Linda would be happy to share the costs, please call the church at 903.758-8091 or Virginia Wall at 903.424-4729.

PACK YOUR BAGS FOR ANNUAL CONFERENCE!

No, we are not talking about your personal suitcases.  We are talking about the burgundy bag you received at annual conference last year (or any year).  Pack it (or a paper or plastic sack) full with those 15 ounce canned goods you need to bring to support our missions food drive for the Galveston County Food Bank.  Let’s give back to the Galveston area by giving generously to this event and help the least of these our brothers and sisters in need.  Volunteers will be available to take your donations as you enter the convention center.  No need to carry them far.  We will greet you at the entrance and relieve you of your burden.  You will be blessing others as you enter annual conference.  What a great way to begin the week!  See you there!

The Center for Missional Excellence

Food Drive

Ladies,

Hope everyone is doing well.  I wanted to take a minute let you all know that we will have a food drive at annual conference to benefit the Galveston County Food Bank.  I have been told that we will have a space to collect donations in the lobby of the convention center near registration.  I am sending with BT copies of the attached flyer that I hope he gives to everyone in attendance at the district meetings to start spreading the word.  Diane wants us to be giving back to the community as we converge on Galveston in a few weeks.  We will be taking monetary donations but she hopes to be able to see lots of 15 oz. canned goods arriving to fill the donation boxes.

We would appreciate your help to remind people of this mission project on your website or in group e-mails as we draw closer to the opening service at annual conference.  Also, we need volunteers to help greet people and take the donations.  My schedule is attached and you can see I have very few volunteers at this point though I have been promoting the need for several weeks.  If you can promote the need for volunteers in any way I will greatly appreciate it.  Just have anyone who might say they will help to e-mail me their availability.  Thanks for your help.
